Tandoori Kabob House

Tandoori Kabob House, located at 10728 Cypress Creek Pkwy, Houston, TX 77070, offers an exceptional experience for anyone craving authentic Afghan cuisine in the heart of Houston. This cozy and casual eatery, owned by a welcoming family, stands out for its rich and flavorful dishes, especially known for their traditional approach to Afghan cooking.

A standout on their menu is the Shorwa, a hearty lamb broth that is described as soul-satisfying. Served with tender lamb and a potato soaked in the broth, this dish is the perfect comfort food. The experience is elevated when you dip their fresh, homemade naan into the broth, letting it soak up the rich flavors before taking a bite. The combination of falling-off-the-bone lamb and the aromatic naan provides a truly unforgettable taste.

Another crowd favorite is the Quabili Pallow, a flavorful rice dish typically served with raisins. The restaurant offers a customized version without raisins, catering to those who prefer a more traditional savory approach. Accompanied by fall-off-the-bone lamb, this dish exemplifies the authenticity that defines Tandoori Kabob House. For those who enjoy grilled delights, the Chapli Kabob is a must-try. Perfectly juicy, slightly charred, and well-seasoned, it is regarded as one of the best kabobs in town.

For newcomers to Afghan cuisine, the Bolani, a stuffed pancake filled with leeks, potatoes, and cilantro, is an excellent choice to start. Pair it with a Teka Beef Kabob for a complete meal that bursts with flavor. Despite being a quiet evening during one visit, the food was fresh off the grill, highlighting the restaurant's commitment to quality and quick service.

Tandoori Kabob House’s menu offers a variety of dishes that truly capture the essence of Afghan cooking, making it a top choice for both locals and visitors craving authentic flavors in Houston.

Truly soul-satisfying is how I would describe my favorite dish which is Shorwa. Sometimes the most simple things bring the greatest pleasure. When you order this, a bowl comes to the table of one of the best rich lamb broths you ever tasted. A potato sits in that broth and I love breaking it apart into bite-size pieces and, once they've sat in the lamb broth for a while, I fork them onto a plate and just add a bit of extra salt and eat them. Oh my. But the best thing of all, beyond forking a piece of that falling-off-the-bone lamb into your mouth, is the naan experience. They make their own wonderful type of naan here and you break it apart and dip it into that broth. Let it sit for a few seconds and then pull it out and put that dripping bread into your mouth and chew. I promise, it's so good it will knock your socks off!!!

This is an authentic Afghan restaurant in Houston that's owned by the cutest family. It's a very casual no frills place but the food was absolutely delicious. The Quabili Pallow (their spelling) was nice and flavorful with fall of the bone lamb. They were kind enough to serve it without raisins although it does come with it traditionally. The chapli kabob is also the best i've had in town, perfectly juicy and spiced but still slightly charred. I would highly recommend if you're in the area and craving Afghan food.

My visit here was the first Afghani food I've had, and I will definitely be back for more! My wife and I shared the bolani - which is like a seasoned pancake stuffed with leeks, potatoes, and cilantro - and the teka beef kabob with rice. The service was quick, and you could tell that the food was fresh off the grill! It was quiet the night we went there - less than half of the tables were being used, but it may have been later than their normal dinner crowd would be there. Next time I'll have to try their naan and tandoori chicken...

I've had a favorite Afghan restaurant in Houston for a while now, but I'm glad I found this place because it's actually closer to my home. Very similar menu, similar prices as my other favorite, probably the same owner, just different names, but I will probably be coming to this location a lot more now. I order the typical dishes, and they are superb. I also love getting to-go orders, as they work great for get-togethers with friends. The dishes I just can't get enough of are the chapli kabob and lamb curry. They're just so addicting. They're spicy though, so if you can't handle the heat, then I'd suggest ordering other items. Service has always been friendly, even though I am always the only white customer.

I don't believe I've had afghan food before so I decided to try this place out after having my car serviced nearby. I ordered online, each of their menu items have photos which was helpful. Upon walking inside, it was still early for dinner so it was empty but very clean and nicely decorated. I was promptly informed that my meal was still being prepared, I only waited a few minutes for it to be received. I decided to try Mantoo, a dumpling with a spiced meat filling served with a yogurt and a spiced ground meat tomato sauce. It was interesting but very good. I also ordered Challow Kabob. It's like a grilled spiced ground beef with onions. It's also served with a side salad, yellow basmati rice and a grilled tomato. I would compare it to a kofta maybe because it reminded me of the warm spices. Salad was a nice fresh accompaniment and the fluffy tender rice was delicious. I would like to return to try additional items.
